Repubblika, in partnership with the S-INFO project, is organizing the first S-INFO seminar titled “Major Challenges Facing Journalism in Malta and Europe” on Wednesday, 26th March, from 5 PM to 7 PM at Ghollieqa Shed, Campus Hub, Msida, Malta. This event is part of a series of seminars organised by the S-INFO project in collaboration with four different universities in the four partner countries.
The event is part of the campaign “No Democracy Without Journalism“, taking place simultaneously in Malta, Italy, Belgium, and Romania. The campaign aims to emphasize the critical role journalism plays in protecting democracy by ensuring citizens’ access to accurate and trustworthy information. The campaign is in response to the multiple threats facing independent journalism, and hence democracy itself. The value of independent journalism is questioned, its legitimacy attacked, its truth-seeking undermined by fake news, its resources are starved, its voice silenced through legal and other means, while journalists are often harassed and sometimes harmed. We’d like to make citizens more aware of how crucial independent journalism is to their freedom of choice based on access to factual and reliable information.
During the event, academics, journalists, and activists will discuss key issues facing journalism today, including challenges such as polarization, misinformation, and the evolving role of journalism in driving social change.
Refreshments will be served.
