Can social activism and journalism reach a synthesis? Does the neutrality of information really exist? Media activism began as a counter-information practice within the cultural movements of the 1970s, but today it is more than that. Or perhaps, for some, less.

The increasingly complex national and international scenarios today, as never before, require the analysis of facts and news, not just reporting. Chronicling events is no longer sufficient to convey correct and complete information. There is a need, therefore, for journalists who know how to take sides, without losing their professionalism but, on the contrary, serving the different sides.

In this episode of voices from the bizzòlo we have collected the testimony of some guests who have made media activism their professional frame of reference. Antonio Mazzeo, an essayist and freelance journalist from Messina, has signed some of the most important enquiries on the mafia infiltration of large-scale works in Sicily and Calabria. Antonio Pio Lancellotti, on the other hand, is the director of GlobalProject, an independent multimedia platform made possible by the collective work of many media activists. Finally, Valentina Zoccali, representative of S-Info, a European project created with the aim of creating an operational model for sustainable media activism.
